The build teams had a chance to improve upon what they found out at the Kansas regional. After the drive shaft sheared in the Kansas tournament, the shafts were replaced with new steel shafts to prevent the same issue. Problems with the chain drive were looked at, and our team is currently looking at converting the drive train to a 6 wheel drive to remove the possibility of the drive chains falling off. Drive train is also having some issues with hopping as the robot is turning due to the tank drive. The drive was raised in an attempt to fix this, but did not have the impact we wanted. Hopefully they will be able to work on this problem today!
On the side of the manipulator, General operation has been good though aiming has proved difficult. Steve and his team are looking into new ways to improve this in both the teleoperated mode and the autonomous mode.
The overall impression of today was good- We performed well, especially considering the robot was taken apart twice and we only missed one practice match due to ocmmunication issues. We look forward to competing today!
Anna and Audrey worked hard on the Chairman's presentation today. They were able to polish off their presentation, and practiced in front of other students, mentors, and recieved input from Coronado Team 2996, previous winner of the award. They are signed up to present first thing in the morning, and we looking forward to the results!
