Rocky Mountain Robotics is Academy School District 20’s FIRST robotics team, located in Colorado Springs.
How do I become a member of RMR? What's really in it for me? What are meetings like? And can I letter in Robotics? Find out what it takes to be a Robotics member in The Member's Passport.
We thank our sponsors:
Rocky Mountain Robotics began as a class project in a Mission to Mars curriculum in the fall of 2000. Originally, the team was composed of a small group of Pine Creek High School students and a handful of adult mentors who competed under the name Eagle Robotics.
In its second season, the team expanded to include students and teachers from Air Academy High School. Season three saw the inclusion of students from Rampart and Liberty High Schools. In the fall of 2002, the team name was changed to Rocky Mountain Robotics in order to better reflect the diversity of the student membership.
The 2006-2007 season is the seventh year for Rocky Mountain Robotics and the team has grown to include more than fifty students from three of the district high schools and a dozen helpful adults.
Until this season, the team has been semi-nomadic. The first three seasons, the team used garage space provided by team members as its “headquarters” and to build robots. In the middle of the third season, Quantum Corporation provided space for the remainder of that year and the next. Season five saw the team move into a space provided by Chapel Hills Mall and season six was spent in a temporary building at the Classical Academy.
Then, in September 2006, a permanent team home was established at Eagleview Middle School. Unfortunately, this so called permanent home lasted only a single season. Eagleview was flooded by heavy rains during the early portion of the build season, forcing middle-school students to use the build space as a classroom. So, once again Rocky Mountain Robotics was homeless. Fortunately, Academy District 20 has provided us another home at the Discover Canyon Campus, guaranteed to be our abode for several years to come.
We display our awards while keeping in mind that Rocky Mountain Robotics is not solely about achievement; it is about change: improving the world of science and technology with our endeavors and improving society through our gracious professionalism.
